Anti-Semitic graffiti more frequent in Kyiv - Jewish Fund of Ukraine
The Jewish Fund of Ukraine (JFU) Public Council intends to submit to the Kyiv city administration and the Ukrainian president's Secretariat a photo report of graffiti insulting the national dignity of Jews and representatives of other ethnic communities."Monitoring conducted by experts confirms that the number of anti- Semitic graffiti in the streets of Kyiv has increased. In most cases, anti-Semites blame Jews for the economic and political crisis in Ukraine," Arcady Monastyrsky told Interfax on Monday.
Despite the recent assurances of the city authorities that proper measures have been taken, more insulting graffiti have appeared around the city, most of them in the Desnyanskiy and Darnitskiy dormitory districts, the activist said.
Also, the JFU has expressed outrage at the fact that World War II- era Nazi military uniforms and emblems are sold freely at the Kurenevsky market.
Set up in 2008, the JFU unites political and public figures, businessmen and art celebrities who were born and grew up in Ukraine but are now living in other countries.
