The Jewish Forum of Ukraine has protested against the Kyiv City Council's decision to rename Comintern Street to Symon Petliura Street. The Jewish Forum of Ukraine believes that the names of historically controversial personalities should not be given to streets and cities, and it is better to return to them their original geographical and historical names, and what counts more, that these names be far from politics," said Jewish Forum of Ukraine Director Arkady Monastyrsky.
On May 19 the Bill to require the New York City Board of Elections to translate all voting material into Russian, in addition to its current list of languages (English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean) has passes on the State Senate floor with an overwhelming majority of 48 out of 62. Then on May 28, 2009 Bill passed the State Assembly floor with an overwhelming vote of 109 to 23. It is an important initiative since a recent survey by U.S. Census Bureau showed that “Russian is New York’s # 3 foreign language".

Jerusalem Post: As US harps on settlements, Israel aims to boost Russian tiesThe Foreign Ministry is gradually placing more importance on diplomacy with Russia as the relationship with Washington undergoes a reformulation under the Obama administration. Boris Spiegel, president of the World Congress of Russian Jewry and a member of the Russian Federation Council, says Russia can play a constructive role in the current climate.
On May 18, the NCSJ delegation visited the Federation Council of Russia, where it held talks with the leadership of the upper chamber of Russian parliament - the Vice-Chairman of the Council of Federation Svetlana Orlova, the chairman of the Commission of the Federation Council on the development of civil society institutions, WCRJ President Boris Spiegel, senator Alexander Shkolnik. NSCJ delegation was chaired by NCSJ Chairman Richard Stone, President Alexander Shmukler, executive director Mark Levin, members of the Board of Directors of NCSJ.

Briefing “The Outcome and Lessons of World War II and the Present” was held in United NationsOn 5 May at 3 p.m. the UN Headquarters in New York hosted a briefing “The Outcome and Lessons of World War II and the Present” organized by the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights (MBHR) and the American Forum of the World Congress of the Russian Jewry (WCRJ) in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN.

'Living With Radiation' Conference Commemorating Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster Held at United NationsThe conference addresses issues related to the increasing cost of health care. Recommendations regarding new cost-effective diagnostic and treatment modalities will be presented by an international group of thyroid cancer experts from major medical centers in the United States, Russia, Ukraine and European countries such as Italy. The conference is attended by some 150 medical personnel.
